JACOB REeD
AUDIO ENGINEER / PRODUCER
MY WORK
Recording
Great sound starts from the moment we step into the studio. Let me work with you throughout this process. I provide an intelligent, fun, and comfortable environment for tracking. From music to podcasts and beyond, let’s get you tracked.
Mixing
While I try to hear an idea of the final mix throughout the whole process, the mixing stage is where our creative minds really get to meet. Whether you’ve chosen to record yourself, work in another tracking environment, or collaborate with me throughout the whole process, I pledge to give you my all to get the sound that’s in your head.
Mastering
Mastering is that scary word in the music field that many seem to misunderstand. Let me handle it for you! In addition to mixing services, I have experience mastering music of many different styles. Feel free to check out my recent work to get a taste of my mixes and masters.
Producing
I’ve sat on the other end of the recording countless times as a guitarist, and I know the struggles of working with the incorrect producer on a song that means the world to you. Above all else, we’re making music, so it’s crucial that we get the song right in the first place. As a trained musician and experienced producer, I can help make that happen.
Post-Production
Have a need for foley, SFX, dialogue editing, ADR, voiceover, or mixing for your film, commercial, or video? I have the professional and technical knowledge to accomplish these tasks, and I have a whole lot of fun doing it, too. Let’s talk about how we can give your sound the same love as what the video got on set.
ABOUT ME
I believe that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to treating different projects. This is an industry of collaboration, creativity, and constant learning, and I want that to shine through in the music and post-production I have a chance to be a part of. This is why I studied at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music, where I was trained in everything from music theory to making records. This schooling was crucial to my development, but I also credit much of my learning to real-world studio experience, whether it was from my own work or the three separate facilities I’ve been fortunate enough to intern for. I worked under the talented J. Robbins, owner of Baltimore’s The Magpie Cage Recording Studio, where I got my first taste for what it meant to be a working engineer. Following that, I spent a year assisting five-time Grammy award winning engineer, Jay Dudt, at the legendary MCG Jazz in Pittsburgh, where we recorded live concerts ranging from Samara Joy to Arturo Sandoval. As I closed out my college career, I interned with the phenomenal Jesse Naus at Red Caiman Studios as they changed locations, which allowed me to assist in both tearing down and rebuilding the guts of a professional recording studio. It was here that I developed an interest in post-production work, as the studio spent a majority of the time during that period working on feature and short films. Through these experiences, my own work, and even doing freelance live sound throughout the city of Pittsburgh, I’m well equipped and ready to go for whatever you have to throw at me. There is a reason for everything I do in a production- the largest one being that I care about the things I have the privilege to work on. I pride myself on my strong work ethic, and I will give your project every bit of that. Get in contact with me below, and let me help you bring your ideas to life!
I developed my love for audio engineering in the same way many do- I love music! I first picked up the guitar in 2016, experimenting in genres such as folk punk, progressive metal, jazz, and more since. When I’m not engineering or playing guitar, I’m spinning a record from my ever-growing collection, cooking, playing and seeing shows, going outdoors, or spending time with those I care about.
